Yesterday, I installed the EQStar Pro system on the EQ5 and was testing it using the Raspberry Pi Zero/W. Objective: This was really more a test of the EQStar Pro system that I purchased for an old EQ5 mount that I had around for many years.
But I think the guiding accuracy suffered and would have been better on a more powerful version of the Rapberry PI. Here is the image:Ĭonclusion: Using the two cameras simultaneously for guiding and imaging really pushed the Pi Zero/W to its limits. Object: M42 (I wanted to make this easy for a first test). To use it in headless mode, modify the wpa_nf file in the boot directory before the first boot on the Raspberry Pi Zero/W. You can burn the image on a uSD Card (min 8GB) with Raspberry Pi Imager.
If you want to play with it, the download link is: I removed incompatible drivers (mainly the toupcam and derived cameras) and generated a Raspberry Pi image for the Raspberry Pi Zero/W that includes: Some of the incompatibility is related to camera drivers (e.g., toupcam) that are incompatible with the armv6. The reason is that the Raspberry Pi Zero/W uses an armv6 processor, instead of the armv7 or armv8 that other Raspberry Pis use. I noticed that some astrophotography software does not run on the Raspberry Pi Zero/W.
